1. Proximity to Sasthamcotta Lake
The most prominent geographical feature of Sooranad South is that it shares its border with Sasthamcotta Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Kerala. The southern boundary of the panchayat runs along this lake. This proximity plays a vital role in maintaining the local groundwater table and ensuring a steady supply of drinking water.
2. Topography
In terms of Kerala's general physical divisions, this panchayat falls under the Midland (Idanad) region.
- The terrain is a mix of elevated laterite hillocks, gentle slopes, and low-lying valleys and paddy fields.
- The soil composition mostly consists of laterite soil on the higher terrains and fertile alluvial soil in the low-lying valleys.
